The 10th Bristol Company of the Boys’ Brigade is a part of Hanham Methodist Church, the Avon Battalion and the West of England and Channel Islands District of the Boys Brigade. We are a Christian youth organisation for boys and the Company is split by age into four sections: Anchor Boys (5 - 7 year olds), Junior Section (8 - 11 years) and Company (11 - 15 years) & Senior Section (15 - 18 years). The Captain, Mr Mike Vernon is the Officer in charge of the Company and we have a leader or Officer in Charge of each section. All officers are volunteers and those in charge have all undergone Youth Leader training and have completed CRB checks. Both the BB and the Methodist Church have developed child protection procedures to which we adhere and which are available on request.ConsentAll BB members must supply a consent form signed by their parents. This is completed annually. Separate consent is sought for special activities such as camps or sleepovers. Our activities include games, badge work, crafts, church services, parades, competitions and sports. We aim to enable boys to enjoy themselves, have fun and form lasting friendships while learning life skills, and about being a Christian in the world today.CostsBoys pay a subscription fee three times per year (September, January and April.). The rate for 2008/9 is £16 per term for Junior Section, Company and Seniors £13 for Anchors. We may ask for contributions towards the cost of outside visits or special activities although we try to subsidise costs through fundraising, such as Web Ivory catalogue sales. The cost of uniform items is available at the BB shop (Click UNIFORM) on the left.Parade Services Parade Services are held at Hanham Methodist Church on around 7 special Sundays throughout the year and all boys are expected to attend, in uniform. Boys arrive at 10.20 am and meet in the Anchor Boys room. Parents are encouraged to stay for the Service which lasts about an hour, and to share in a cup of coffee afterwards. Following the Service, boys return to the Anchor Boys room from which they are dismissed. We have an annual enrolment service in October at which boys make promises and receive membership cards. At this very important service we also issue promotions and awards. Each year Junior and Company Sections attend Battalion Parades in October for Founders Day and in April. These are important Battalion events which take place at various locations in the area. An annual Carol Service is held for Anchor Boys. Youth ChurchThis is run by the
church for all young people on Sunday mornings at 10.30am. We strongly
encourage
BB members to attend on Sundays when there is no Parade.
